Apple announces a new Social Network for music on iTunes.  With Ping, artists can promote music to followers while users can share their musical tastes.  Just like Twitter but strictly music updates.  This was an inevitable step since most people use iTunes to download their music (and iPods to listen to it).  It was only a matter of time before Apple jumped on the social networking bandwagon.  What’s next?  A Social Network just for TV shows?  Then of course there needs to be one just for Film.  I can see the Apple Empire growing now.

If this pans out the way Apple wants it to, looks like MySpace will finally be put out of its misery.  Poor Tom.  First he lost the major social networking community to Facebook and now this.  I’d really like to see a fight out of MySpace.  Maybe a revamped look?  Contests?  Free shows?  They definitely need to think fast to stay in the game.
