twitter

Shelly Palmer’s commentary on twitter today: The Tweet Is Mightier Than The Pen: How Micro-Fame, Micro-Bloggers And Micro-Events Will Change The World  I love how he uses these big terms, change the world, take it easy there. But I do agree with him Twitter definitely empowers the individual even more so than blogging. Twittering doesn’t require  much and can easily be updated on the go.

You can tell all your friends to come meet you at an event or broadcast your latest project. On Twitter, there is a constant dialogue between all your network of friends. I find it fun and less intrusive than facebook. Now is twitter and microfame going to change the world. Hm, doubtful. But I do have to say. Everyone is obsessed with it.

DIYCity.org – can we use social networking to improve our cities?

An interesting concept that a fellow ITPer alumni, John Geraci created DIYCity.org .
As we enter a new political era, there is a consensus for collaboration. I love how DIYCity is a call to start a dialogue/collaborations b/w tech professionals to enhance the city landscape. It’s inspiring.
Here is their mission statement: Twitter bots, aggregators, social software, mobile apps – we use these things more and more in our daily routines to make our lives better. But can we also use them to remake our cities altogether? How can these technologies be applied to transform urban spaces, changing them from the centralized, hard-coded things they are today into finely-tuned, fluid, user-operated systems that are efficient, sustainable and fit for life in the 21st century?
